Hiya Hughesies!
Six of our Hughes Scholars were at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium this past weekend in Chantilly, VA with Laurel and I. They gave presentations on their Hughes research. They did an AMAZING job!! If you see Bertheleau, Michael, Khalil, Bradley, Carlos or Andre, please be sure to congratulate them!

Opportunity to meet with Dr. Michelle D. Nearon, Assistant Dean and Director, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Yale University on Thursday, July 30th. Dr. Nearon will be here from 9am – 12pm to meet with students interested in graduate studies at Yale. If you are interested in meeting with Dr. Nearon for an individual appointment, please email me (pd43) by Wednesday, July 29th. Sign ups are first come, first serve and will be offered to other summer programs on campus as well!
Symposium Prep-
We are one week away from our Hughes Symposium on August 7th.
Symposium Practice Sessions- ALL scholars are expected to attend one session this week: (7/29, 7/30) PLEASE SIGN UP! Students should sign up at: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dfh7pmmd_9hpcxd8fq&invite=1353035626 and then plan on checking in with me in 216 Stimson before the practice begins
• NOTE- Regardless of your symposium presentation format, ALL scholars are expected to attend a practice session and review their presentation with a grad student.
• Stay tuned for instructions on selecting a grad student to practice with, but be prepared to submit an electronic version of your presentation to me (pd43) and eventually the grad student assigned to your session room.

Upcoming events:
*Wednesday, July 29th – Symposium Practice Session #1. 6:00PM – 7:30PM, Stimson Hall. Students should come prepared to go over with a graduate student the beginning of their symposium presentation. This time, focusing on the intro and background of your research project
*Thursday, July 30th- Walk-in Appointments with Dr. Michelle Nearon, Yale University, 9am – 12pm, 216 Stimson Hall. See info above!
*Thursday, July 30th – Symposium Practice Session #1. 6:00PM – 7:30PM, Stimson Hall.
*Friday, July 31st – REVISED Symposium Abstract Due. Abstracts were due LAST Friday. Laurel will review and send corrections to scholars early this week.
* Travel/Leave Request forms
If folks are going to be away for a short period of time during the
program, they must complete a travel/leave request form. It must be signed by your research mentor and provide dates for when you will make up the absence. The forms are in my office.
