Heya Hughesies!
So this is it. The final week of the 2007 Hughes Scholars summer! Where has the time gone?!
For the last time this summer, here’s what’s on deck this week:
Writing Assignments Part #2
ALL Scholars will complete these assignments.
Final Research Abstract
Laurel has reviewed your project description, and has written comments for each. Based on this feedback and the updated status of your research this summer, ALL scholars will submit a final abstract to me by email (pd43) that will be publish in an abstract book. These booklets will be sent to scholars, scholar’s families, research mentors, and HHMI as a yearbook for the 2007 summer program. I will have the statements at Seminars tomorrow.
Progress Report
Scholars will write a 2-3-page document updating the progress made on their research project. This is the place for the details of what worked and what didn’t. Please also detail what future directions you will take your project.
Folks receiving stipend checks, your 4th and final check will be available for your abstract, progress report and completed evaluations.
(Writing Assignment Part #1- please keep sending both pieces to me by email. I have checks for people who have completed and sent them to me. )
Summer end evaluations
Please expect to hear more about two online evaluations we’d like you to complete for the program. (Hopefully by Wednesday.)

Hughes Summer End Reception & Celebration at the Science Center, Friday, August 3rd 6-8pm.
As you know we will have some tasty food and have the Sciencenter (http://www.sciencenter.org/) to ourselves from 6-8pm on Friday. Directions are included below. We will have three vans (departing from Biotech) to drive guests down the hill, other drivers are needed and greatly appreciated!
Directions to the Sciencenter
The Sciencenter is located at 601 First Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.
1. Take Third Street south from NYS Route 13 (look for the signs).
2. Take an immediate left onto Franklin Street
At times the left turn onto Franklin Street is too congested. Instead, stay on Third Street for one additional block and turn left onto Adams Street. Turn left again at the stop sign onto First Street – proceed one block.
3. The Sciencenter is located at the corner of First and Franklin Streets.
Have a good week!
